Here at Caveman Sound we’re always looking for fresh new ways to bring you guys the music that we love. So we’ve decided to venture forth on occasion from the usual quick-post, and give you a more in depth look at specific artists that we’ve made connections with, and that we think are creating something worthy of particular note.

Recently we had the pleasure of sitting down to talk with up-and-coming talent Mako. The duo is made up of Alex Seaver and Logan Light, who are based in LA, and have an interesting story behind their creation. They met through their dad’s after Alex, who graduated from Julliard with a background in film composition and classical, moved out to LA to pursue those opportunities further. Logan’s dad and Alex were working on a project together when he mentioned to Alex that Logan was an electronic DJ. Logan has been an established DJ for awhile, making appearances at clubs around LA, and opening for artists such as Tiesto, Deadmau5, and Avicii.

Upon meeting, Logan introduced Alex to dance music, an experience Alex simply described as, “Logan didn’t just give me a sample, he pretty much threw me into the lion’s den”. His first time really hearing it was at EDC in Las Vegas, which as any festival goer knows is no kiddy playground (or is it?). From then on he was hooked, going to different shows, discovering new artists, and just immersing himself in the whole scene. Alex realized that this was something he wanted to pursue, something completely different than what he already knew. So he and Logan decided to come together to form Mako.

The dynamic created when bringing both their backgrounds together was immediately poised for success. Their sound is influenced by progressive house and big room melodic electro, as well as classical composers such as Gustav Mahler and Claude Debussey. This results in feel good dance beats backed by extremely well put together compositions.

And they’re hitting it full force. Though they’ve got some shows lined up around LA for the Summer, their main focus is on original productions and further exploration of the Mako sound. As Logan and Alex both put it, “there’s a host of DJs out there, but obviously the ones that rise to the top are the ones that can really produce their own stuff”. Well, they’re off to a great start.

Beam is one of their first original tracks to come out in full. It’s an Avicii-esque force to be reckoned with, and a prime view at what Mako is working with in the talent section.

In addition to creating originals, they’re looking to get some solid remixes put out over the coming Summer. Though more Mako productions are their top priority, they recognize the importance of getting their name out their through the hands of fellow producers. The ultimate launchpad is clearly to have their tracks played out by the big names in the scene. Alex articulated the vibe of the dance music scene nicely, saying, “it seems like it’s just a solid network of dudes, a really good group of producers who feed off each other”. Which couldn’t be more spot on, and we’re sure once people get their hands on Mako’s tunes, they will spread like wild fire.

EDC also just held an Insomniac Discovery Project, which Mako entered, competing with various other DJs to try and win a spot to play at EDC Las Vegas. They created an absolutely killer 20 minute mix of all of their original tracks. Though some are still evolving, the mix is a perfect sampler of what Mako is all about, and what we can expect in the future.

It was a real treat getting to know the guys and hearing about all the amazing new stuff coming their way. We’ll be keeping in touch with Alex and Logan, so be sure to check back soon for more.
